Honey Balls For Tea
That's the origin of this Honey Citrus Mint Tea, also known as “The Medicine Ball” or “The Coldbuster.” To make it at home, you'll heat water. Boba goes beyond cassava starch balls and brewed teas. Bubble tea, pearl tea, milk tea - whatever you call it, here's everything you nee.
In a large bowl, mix yeast and sugar into half cup of the warm water. When mixture turns foamy, about 5 minutes, stir in remaining 1½ cups warm water along with the flour, salt, nutmeg and vanilla. Mix until batter is thick but smooth. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until almost doubled in size, about 1–1½ hours.
(The dough should be very soft and bubbly.)Pour oil into a deep fryer, or saucepan making sure there is at least 2 inches between the oil surface and the top of the pot. Heat the oil.Working in batches, slide dollops of the batter (about the size of a heaped tablespoon) into the hot oil, making sure not to crowd the pan. Dollops will puff up and float to the surface. Turning occasionally, until batter is a crisp, golden brown on all sides, about 3–4 minutes.Remove carefully with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Repeat as many times as is needed. Place drained puffs on warm platter and keep warm.To serve, place 4 or 5 fried puffs into a bowl, drizzle honey over and dust generously with cinnamon.Loukoumades are best if eaten warm, the same day they are made.
Leave processed sugars alone and reach for the honey to sweeten your next cup of tea. While honey does pack in a few more calories per serving than sugar, using local, raw honey boasts antioxidants to fight disease and improve your health. Choose from different varietals of honey to complement your favorite teas and enjoy all the benefits of this natural sweetener.
Step 1
Select raw, local honey, which is minimally processed to retain beneficial vitamins and minerals. Choose mild-flavored clover and orange blossom honeys to flavor most types of tea. Pair blueberry honey with Earl Grey and English breakfast teas; milk sage honey with orange spice, lemon and mint teas; or buckwheat honey with green and herbal teas.
Step 2
Brew a cup of tea in your usual fashion by pouring near-boiling water over a tea bag in a mug. Steep for three to five minutes.
Step 3
Remove the tea bag, then measure 1 teaspoon of honey. Start by replacing your usual amount of sugar with 1 teaspoon of honey, which is slightly sweeter than sugar. Add the honey to your tea and stir thoroughly to incorporate. Taste the tea and add more honey if necessary.
