The Coast Guard Reserve offers citizens the opportunity to serve on a part-time basis, while still serving their country and community. Reservists take part in maritime safety, mobility, security, national defense and the protection of natural resources.

D13's Area of Responsibility encompasses four states and the entire Pacific Northwest coast. We also share a border with Canada to the north and California to the south.The Coast Guard first established its presence in the Pacific Northwest with the construction and operation of 16 lighthouses along the coast built between 1852 and 1858.

The presence was reaffirmed in 1854 with the entry of the Revenue Cutter Jefferson Davis to Puget Sound. Today, D13's headquarters is located in Seattle with three Sector offices managing operations in their respective areas - Puget Sound, Columbia River and North Bend.The men and women of D13 conduct a vast array of daily operations in support of the Coast Guard's statutory missions. Our crews can be found conducting search and rescue, patrolling coast, sound and North Pacific to enforce safety and fisheries regulations, conducting safety and compliance inspections and exams on commercial vessels and waterfront facilities and protecting our nation's strategic defense and critical infrastructure.D13 is home to the largest domestic ferry system in the U.S. Moving 24 million passengers and 11 million vehicles annually across 10 routes, the 3rd largest domestic port, the 3rd largest cruise ship port, and the number one grain export gateway in the U.S. Through the Columbia River.D13 is made up of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana.
More than 3,000 active duty and reserve members, civilian employees, and Coast Guard Auxiliarists are stationed in the Pacific Northwest. D13 operational assets include 21 Cutters, 132 Boats and 11 Aircraft.D13 also provides support and a homeport to Coast Guard Pacific Area assets including two high endurance cutters, three medium endurance cutters, two icebreakers, a port security unit, maritime safety and security team, and Base Seattle. Today, the Seattle Seahawks hosted your United States Coast Guard at Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton to kickoff this year& Salute to Service. Coast Guardsmen stationed around the Pacific Northwest attended practice and over 50 participated in competitive drills.The Seahawks players and fans were able to watch a rescue demonstration thanks to an aircrew from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station / SFO Port Angeles.Thank you for hosting us, and good luck this season!U.S.

Coast Guard Air Station / SFO Port Angeles and Air Facility Newport, as well as a boat crew from Coast Guard Station Quilayute River, were busy last night with the rescue of stranded hikers in Washington and Oregon.Husband and wife MH-65 Dolphin helicopter pilots at the air facility flew on two separate cases in the same day. The husband piloted the Dolphin on the stranded hikers rescue in Oregon, while his wife was one of the pilots on another MH-65 that delivered a pump to a disabled fishing vessel in Newport, Oregon.Here& to peak dedication in the Pacific Northwest!Read more. Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound, along with the Canadian Coast Guard, rescued a 60-year-old man from a capsized vessel near the Hoko River in Sekiu, Wash., Sunday night.The man was able to survive 45-mins in the water thanks to wearing a LIFEJACKET.' This rescue highlights the absolute necessity for mariners to always wear personal floatation devices while on the water,' said Petty Officer Alexander Polyak, an operations specialist at Sector Puget Sound. 'Additionally, our joint coordination with the Canadian Coast Guard demonstrates how maritime safety transcends national boundaries; this case provided a unique opportunity to work directly with our international partners for a rapid, successful response.'
